Currently our dog string consists of 11 English Pointers, 4 Brittany Spaniels and 2 Labrador Retrievers. This is the largest commercial Dog String in The State of Arizona. All our dogs are worked and trained in the Off Season.Prior to our Arizona Quail Hunting Season the dogs spend 6 weeks in Saskatchewan, hunting for Huns and Shaprtails. All our dogs are trained on wild birds, the result is a very confident dogs that know the nuances of the birds we are hunting. The benefit to our Clients is that we always have fresh dogs that are conditioned to the harshness of this environment. We believe this is one of the keys to a successful Arizona Quail Hunt.
Over past and during the present season(s) my dogs have pointed, Bobwhite Quail, Scaled Quail, Mearns Quail, Gamble’s Quail, Valley Quail, Chuckar Partridge, Gray Partridge; Sage Grouse, Sharptail Grouse, Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, Blue Grouse, Pinnated Grouse (lesser Prairie Chicken), Ringneck Pheasants, Snipe and a Wood Cock that strayed form its flight path and ended up in Western Oklahoma. The Dogs and Myself have hunted In Canada ,the United States and Mexico. We have also assisted Oklahoma State University conduct Bob white Quail research on The Selman Ranch under the tutelage of Dr. Fred Guthery, but that is another story!
Besides tacking up hundreds of thousands of miles we have blown two engines and three transmissions on two different Suburbans, worn out countless pairs of boots, made numerous trips to Vet.clinics across the West, no doubt we will continue to do so as we search for the “Holy Grail” of upland bird hunting that is rumored to be located somewhere in Western North America. One of the key factors in Booking an Arizona Quail Hunting Guide is that he or she should have no less than 8 Dogs.
If not then it can be buyer -beware.We believe that having a Kennel of “Extreme Athletes ” is needed in order to be able to deliver an excellent Guided Arizona Quail Hunting Experience. The Sonoran Desert is tough on dogs, having a big string does not where an individual dog down, ensuring they are well rested and conditioned when they are in rotation.
Finally, our dogs are not just hunters; they are members of our family who bring a lot of joy to Lisa and myself.
